A household name, Andrew is the most decorated basketball player in the country. Born on the 24th of July, 1965 in Melbourne, Victoria, Andrew Barry Casson Gaze is the son of Australian basketball stalwart Lindsay Gaze. He started his career in the NBL at the age of 18 and was named Rookie Of The Year in 1984. Soon after, with his great three-point shot and good pass, Andrew was the top scorer in the league for a total of 14 seasons. Under the guidance of his father, Andrew led the Melbourne Tigers to two titles.

His stellar career also saw him excel in the international arena. He captained the Australian Olympic Basketball team, played a total of five Olympic Games with the Boomers and led them to their best performance at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He is the scoring record holder in Olympic competitions, and second-highest scorer of all time in World Championship play.
After a short stint in America, Andrew was chosen to be the flag-bearer for the Australian team at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. After the Olympics, he retired from international competition, but continued to play in the NBL. In 2005, after 612 games and 20 games, he announced his retirement from the game.

Known for his gentle, unflappable nature and prematurely grey hair, Andrew has been fixed in the public mind as the face of Australia basketball through the 1990s and early 2000s. Off the court, he is an enthusiastic and energetic individual with a wonderful sense of humour. Married to Melinda, they have four children. Andrew is a loving father and is extremely popular with children.
